What I learnt is that they both have their benefits but you have to be aware that if you add a filter to a whole track that it if you add any sound to that track it will have that filter on it. Go you your input list and pick your desired filter. If you just want to apply a filter to the track and not that specific sound. I did this when I knew I had the right sound and knew I didn't want to change the sound. Once you have adjusted the filter to how you wanted it or picked an appropriate factory filter click the speaker to audition it and then render to finalise it. To make a permanent change to your clip go to the drop down menu (audio suite) and pick your desired sound. You can use multiple filters on your tracks in order for you to get the best the sound. On this page it s just explaining how you can add effects and filters to your tracks. To fade you can either press (apple + F) or if you are using the multi-tool make sure you hover over the top left or right of the clips.
In my film I have hitting sounds and just to place them quickly I used this short cut and it helped me cut down my clip moving time by about 2x. Just click on the place in the timeline then hold (ctrl+click on the clip) and it will move to the cursor. So if you have clicked somewhere and you want to move the track really fast the the cursor. I want to listen to a track quickly in the time line press (alt+click) and a speaker icon will come up for you to preview the track. Go the preferences drop down menu at the top left then a window pops up and click on ( editing)- (zoom toggle) - then you can pick which one will suite you the best. At times I wanted to see my tracks really big and other times I wanted them quite small so i could track across the timeline rapidly when mastering clips. Click on the track go to the drop down menu saying (window) and then go down to (colour pallet) and you can then put your tracks into colour categories.
To colour code your tracks into colour codes so that they can be organised and easy identified. I didn't use this short cut but I may consider using it in my next project because it reckon that it may make my workflow faster. For the volume short cut you can hit (-). If you activate the shuffle tool you can snap audio clips together if you've removed part of the clip ( which is normally done with the blade tool- I usually pressed 'B' to get easy access to this tool. If you press the Apple key and (1,2,3,4) you will be able to access some of the smart tools, even though it can be useful I tended not to use this particular tool because I preferred the all in one multi-tool. To move a clip with that same movement to the beginning of the clip you press (alt, shift and tab). Ron also gave us tips where if a clip is selected it can can be shifted faster down the timeline faster with (shift and tab). it help me edit a number of clips much faster than if I had to pic out the specific tools. In these notes it shows how when you hover over the beginning and the end of clips and trim tool will show providing that at the top of your window that the muti-tool is elected so that yo can access multiple tools to help you work faster in your session. In the top right hand corner of your timeline and clip list their is a bottom with the letters (az) this allows you to use certain shortcuts within the clip list or on the tracks. The 'R,T,NE' allowed me to navigate around the timeline effectively by contracting and retracting zooming and isolating one clip to look at whilst looking at my timeline. This was was useful when I was syncing sound clips to precise points of an image. The numeric section of the keyboard has a an enter button when its pressed it puts a marker. The button below that is of the cursor tab, this particular button allows you to stop and pause the video and the cursor stops at the frame instead of reverting to the begining of the session. I used slip most of the times of so could edit the clips to the video precisely instead of the clip sticking to the grid guidelines. In the first notes it shows the time codes and how it can be changed from slip to grid according to how you want to position your clips on the time line. In the week I came in and practised what were in the notes. I had troubles with work for the first few weeks so a friend took notes for me.
This is a short user guide to how to use pro tools and how I have applied it to this task. i have heard of it before but I didn't think I would be able to pick up as fast as I have in the past few months.
